Safety & Privacy

Our commitment to protecting young people, families, and schools through safe, responsible design.

    Our Safety Commitment

Amigos prioritizes safety, privacy, and responsible use in everything we do. The platform is designed to support young people navigating everyday social, emotional, and digital situations, such as friendships, peer dynamics, online interactions, and personal challenges.

Amigos is not a replacement for parents, caregivers, educators, counselors, therapists, or emergency services. We are a supportive tool, not a substitute for professional care or trusted adults.

    Safety always comes first.

    Peer-Centered Guidance

Amigos combines safe AI-guided support with peer-centered oversight. The AI is designed to help handle these situations, identify safety concerns, and surface helpful resources.

Peer Amigos can be requested to join and help, especially in higher-risk situations where they may be auto-called in.

Amigos is designed to augment your judgment, not replace it.

    Safety Monitoring & Emergency Situations

If a conversation includes references to self-harm, abuse, threats, extortion, or immediate danger, Amigos’ approach may shift to prioritize safety:

    • The conversation may transition to supportive guidance and resources
    • Public story generation may be restricted or prevented
    • Trusted crisis resources may be surfaced to the user

    U.S. Crisis Resources

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out:

Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)

    988lifeline.org

Amigos is not an emergency service. In life-threatening situations, contact emergency services immediately.

    Privacy by Design

Amigos is built with privacy at its foundation:

    • No accounts are required for kids or teens
    • We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, locations, or social media handles
    • Chats are accessed via private magic links, not logins
    • Chats expire after periods of inactivity
    • Public content is anonymized and human-reviewed before publication

    Anonymous Public Stories

After a conversation, a young person may be given the option to consent to an anonymous story being created to help others facing similar situations.

Participation is always optional and requires explicit user consent.

    • Stories are fully anonymized; personal or identifying details are removed or generalized
    • Original chat transcripts are never made public
    • All stories are reviewed by trained humans before publication
    • If safe anonymization is not possible, the story is not published
    • Stories can be removed or unpublished if needed

    Data Retention & Use

We are thoughtful about how data is stored and used:

    • Active chat data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service
    • Anonymous public stories may be stored longer-term to support future users
    • We do not sell personal data to third parties
    • We do not serve advertising based on conversations
    • Internal access is limited to safety, legal compliance, and service improvement

    Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Amigos is designed to align with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

    • We do not intentionally collect personal information from children under 13
    • The service is identity-minimizing by design
    • If personal information is discovered, it is promptly removed

If you believe a child has shared personal information through Amigos, please contact us at thefamily@protectyourcassa.com

    For Schools & Educators

Amigos is designed with schools and educational partners in mind:

    • No student accounts are required
    • No student identities are stored
    • The service is anonymous by default
    • All public stories are reviewed before publication

Implementation materials and documentation are available upon request for schools and educational partners.

    FERPA & School Data Considerations

Amigos is designed to align with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) expectations for school-related tools:

    • Amigos is not a student information system
    • We do not collect academic, disciplinary, or educational records
    • Our identity-minimizing design avoids the creation of student education records

    Data Processing & Security

We take data security and responsible access seriously:

    • Industry-standard cloud infrastructure protects all data
    • Administrative access is restricted and role-based
    • Safety-related access is limited to trained personnel only
    • Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) are available upon request
